Fresh Life in the Concrete Jungle

Toronto urban entertainine backyard concrete

Paving your paradise might actually make it more appealing- especially if you don’t exactly have the time to weed and feed your outdoor expanse. That is the case for this Torontonian. The March 2008 edition of the House and Home magazine features this attractive straight forward backyard just bursting with entertaining amenities.  Poured concrete and 6×6 cedar posts make up the bones of this backyard. The custom sailcloth awning can be drawn back to let in the full sun if you wish.

Basket Weave Tile

basket weave tile

I am a sucker for classic subway tiles, so this fun take on the beloved 2″ x 6″ wall tile couldn’t be better! The St. Pettersburg tile collection available through Ann Sacks is a smooth limestone tile. The curved shape of the tile shows well on this rounded bathroom wall.

Brummel Cucine- Fine Italian Kitchens

Brummel Cusini Custom kitchens Grand Gourmet R Black Kitchen

The extremely lovely and unique kitchens by Brummel Cucine are custom and handmade in highest quality in Bassano Del Grappa, Italy.  From the same charming city that has historically inspired painters, sculptors and poets! Isn’t it completely understandable that the kitchens born from Brummel are unlike any others? The Grand Gourmet R series is divinely black (Laccata 2 Colori). Subtle details like the beading on the island and crown moulding and the rubbed white edges on the raised panels make this kitchen a dramatic stunner! *If you like the black- check out the Maison Classique series, it has a vintage looking kitchen that is super fun (Laccati).

Spiral Wine Cellar

Spiral Cellar

What a fantastic idea!  The Spiral Wine Cellar is a fun and smart storage solution for your wine collection. It can hold up to 1600 bottles depending on the depth you choose, and can be installed in an already built home or in new construction. The cellar is constructed of solid concrete with a waterproof lining, it damp-proof and is highly resistant to temperature changes and vibrations. The cellar provides perfect storage conditions and proper ventalation. A trap door in the floor gives you access to the spiral stairs that wind down through the center, as the modular “shelves” hold all of your bottles along the perimeter. The trap door in the cellar in these images to the left work on a mechanical opening hinge. See their brochure online for more information.

Enchilladas

Enchilladas

We used to have taco night at least once a week when I was growing up- this could possibly stem from the fact that both of my parents were born and raised in Mexico. I have a deep appreciation for Mexican food- an appreciation that runs deeper than the supreme fries you can get at the food court. Any combo with squeeze cheese does not constitute as a true Mexican feast! Here is my mom’s recipe for Enchilladas, make them tonight!

Midnight Damask Chest

Midnight Damask Table black on black

With a craze going around for white and black damask- I would like to introduce black on black damask, *swoon*. This elegant damask chest from Horchow is a beauty bombshell, packing style and drama. The two faux crystal knobs finish the chest nicely. The floral damask finish is my favorite part though, giving this furniture piece a surprising flare. Perfect for an entrance or as a buffet in a smaller dining room.

Karbon Wall-mounted Faucet

karbon wallmount faucet

The original Karbon faucet by Kohler can bend and form to reach anywhere you need it, including compact and out of the way. Now Kohler has released the wall mounted articulating Karbon facuet, it still can be manipulated like the first (it pivots in 5 places actually), but has now moved up and really out your epicurial path.  It is exteremly apealing with such a modern look, and just think of the ease of use! I never have two hands free in the kitchen so sometimes a pullout faucet just doesn’t cut it. Problem is solved with this beauty. It is never too difficult at all to justify the beauty and preformance of the Karbon.
