Brian Gluckstein Home Library 2-Storey

Are you are fortunate enough to have a room (two stories or not) to devote to hard covers and classics stacked to the ceiling? This fabulous library by Gluckstein Design is not at all stuffy and dark, but so rich and inviting; all due to subtle lighting and well selected finishes.

Symmetry by David Wade

Symmetry Book by David Wade

As much of interest to mathematicians as it is to artists, as relevant to physics as to architecture; symmetry underlies almost every aspect of nature and our experience of the world. Illustrated with old engravings and original work by the author, this book moves from church windows and mirror reflections to the deepest ideas of hidden symmetries in physics and geometry, music and the arts, left- and right-handedness. Symmetry: The Ordering Principle (Wooden Books)

Fun Library

Cave bookshelf for Fun Library Bookshelf Chair

The Cave Bookshelf by Sakura Adachi is an amazing and fun design for any bookworm.  Aptly named, the reader may read surrounded and enclosed by his/ or her beloved books in the cavernous cushioned “chair”.  It may also serve as a partition since books can be stored on either side.

Garlic Press

 Garlic Press

We moved to a house with a bigger kitchen -which meant more storage room; and that was all the encouragement I needed to buy lots of things I don’t use/ need.  This however, is so clever and chic, how could I not?  This garlic press is a superior design of its predecessors, it has slots, not holes so it is easier to clean, and it even houses extra garlic cloves in his little glass home.  Plus I wouldn’t store it away in a drawer; this little beauty can sit right on my counter.

Get This Look: Deliciously Monochromatic Kitchen

Monochromatic Kitchen<.a>

White painted cabinets aren’t always a cold white know you, they also come in a vast assortment of creams and linens and glazes, each oozing warmth and comfort- if you know how to pair it up with everything else that is.  This kitchen featured here above was put together in mostly monochromatic tones.  To keep it from becoming boring, the trick is varying heights, varying tones, and most of all varying TEXTURE.

Smiley Bowl

Eva Solo Smiley Bowl

I am all for highly functional and aesthetically pleasing items for around the home!  The Eva Solo smiley bowl is a sweet little bowl that acts as two vessels, one above and one below. This clever little fellow can house nuts below, for example, and hold the shells above.

Le Corbusier Chaise Lounge

Le Corbusier Chaise Lounge

You would certainly recognize this chaise as a classic.  This Chaise Lounge is adjustable, as the chromed-steel cradle sits in a black steel base.   How strangely this design seems as effortless and modern as his other well-known furniture pieces.  Le Corbusier was certainly a genius and rightly placed in history, as the Art Deco modernism movement equally embraced and was influenced by this design giant.

Barcelona Chair

Barcelona Chair

The sweeping lines of chrome tubing make the Barcelona Chair from the Modernist movement one of my all-time favorites!  Designed in 1930 by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, this design is somewhat more feminine, this can possibly be attributed to the repercussions of the Art Nouveaux movement that came before.  The matching ottoman to the Barcelona Chair is just as spectacular!

Le Corbusier Sofa Set

Le Corbusier Sofa Set

Le Corbusier was mainly an architect and writer who started to experiment with furniture design only a year before he designed this ultra-modern chair collection!  Inspired and designed in the late roaring 1920’s, this classic furniture line is still as impacting and fresh today as the day they were birthed.   Pieces of this sofa set are available starting at $1670, but my recommendation is to purchase either two of the chairs or just the sofa and complement it with something different (like the Barcelona chair) to mix it up a bit.  The blank canvas effect of these pieces completely allow for it.Reproductions Starting at $789

Hutton Washstand

 Hutton Washstand Restoration Hardware

When considering a guest bathroom and how to finish it, think of ease and efficiency as well as creating a haven for your weary traveler.  Ask yourself: Is everything at their fingertips?  Is it clear where items they may need are stored?  Would I feel welcome in a bathroom like this?  Open bottoms, or glass doors on a vanity is a great way to store items to have on hand for guests so they may see them clearly.  Have fun with the spa look; purchase large baskets to house things like extra tissue paper rolls, towels, or extra soap. The top on the Hutton Washstand by Restoration Hardware is 1 ¼” thick white Italian Carrara marble, but is available in other colors.  So when it comes to your guests, go ahead and spoil them, they just may not want to leave.
