Style File: Personal Fashion Relating to Interior Design

One of the great freedoms is freedom of expression.  I frequent the online photographic posts of the Sartorialist, he travels around the world posting images of people who through fashion are quite inspirational and unique.  I like to imagine some of his muses in their own homes, I sometimes wonder; how do they accessorize their living space, what are their dinner parties like, is their home a reflection of the person I see before me?  The joy of being an interior designer is not imposing my exact idea of design upon a client but finding their voice and translating that to their home in a pleasing way.  I will be selecting a few of Sart’s around the world personalities and translating their fashion and expressions to interiors. First impressions are lasting- are you wearing your Franco Sartos darlings?

Lady in Red Black Apartment Style File Fashion relating to Design

The lovely lady in red is a vamp. This picture was taken in Milano, she is ultra dramatic, chic and established, she would rather the world be monochromatic so she may stand out like a striking piece of art. I chose her interior as a converted loft in Manhattan that is painted black like the interior of a Chinese lacquered box decorated with signature pieces arranged like a gallery, just stunning.

Crisp white and black and seriously stylish, this young lady in Paris holds herself perfectly poised.  I selected her interior as a clean and modernistic kitchen featuring smooth unassuming lines and a pretty light fixture.

Kate Hepburn look-a-like Dining Room Style File Fashion relating to Design

This Kate Hepburn look-alike from Berlin is casual but traditional, with loosely tousled hair and laid back pose she walks leisurely with her hands slipped into the pockets of her fashionable wide leg pants. I chose an interior I feel reflects her best as a glamorous yet time honored dining room with bold vertical red-on-red striped walls and classic Henkel Harris Dining Room set.

Lady in Blue living Room Style File Fashion Relating to Design

The simple but pretty chevron-patterned vintage dress of this youthful New Yorker is a refreshing look. I thought her design would be light airy colors of blues and celadon, with interesting graphics and fabric textures like this cool hued living room.So what do you think? Are my first impressions way off, or do you think the designs suit?
