A Seat with a View
What better scenery than the view that surrounds a cottage propped up on the shores of Canada’s Muskoka region?

Brothers Dressler is a fabulous company headed by twin woodworkers Jason and Lars Dressler. One look at their unique pieces and you can see the craftsmanship poured into each handmade chair and table. The Onedge Rocker is made of birch plywood on its edge, formed into an almost serpintine shape. It looks comfortable and fun!
Summer is here and I am ordering my coffee iced and thinking of shimmery metallics. It seems our celebretants are on the same vibe, be it the scandal over Sara Jessica Parker’s silver Nina Ricci gown, or a dazzling Dolce and Gabbana couture worn by Naomi Campbell. Perhaps that is why this silvery stunner caught my eye. This Silk Recamier from Neiman Marcus is tufted in all the right places and is poised on coffee bean finished legs. As a metallic, this lounger can go a long way if your interior decor colors are in the cool tones and you need something neutral but punchy enough to spice things up. Mmm, like an iced cappuccino? I’ll be right back……
A swivel desk chair or vanity perch need not be boring, it can be just a pretty as the all the other accessories you chose to surround the room. The Oh la la Swivel Chair features a floral carved frame and cotton twill in pink, light green or blue. I love the feminine flirty shape and colors of this chair, how often do you say that about your desk rolling chair?
Black on white is great, but black on black, well that is just divine! The Smoke Chair by Maartin Baas is constructed of burnt wood, epoxy, leather, and pure style. The deep black matte finish of the leather and wood finish is a sleek look, this is clearly the chair placed by the fire, the one you sit on while reading Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Raven”. Can you smell the vanilla scent of a pipe smoking in the background? The masculine and dark presence of the black tone is balanced by the feminine curves and tapering legs, the lady is a vamp. The Smoke chair would also be a fantastic choice to place at the end of a long dining room table, complemented of course by the Smoking Dining Chair.
Nienkamper has just introduced a new innovative and contemporary piece called the Spirit House Chair. This multi-facetted chair is constructed entirely of 14 gauge stainless steel and weighs a solid 180 lbs. Watch that you don’t puncture your hip though, those are side arms look a tad pointy. It is designed and signed by Daniel Libeskind and was influenced by crystal-like exterior structures by Michael Lee-Chin Crystal.
The Wowo line was born from the premise that pet furniture should blend seamlessly into your home. Owning a pet doesn’t have to mean throwing good taste out the window. That is the mantra of Vurv, a stylish company who created the Wowo Dog Pod. It is deemed the “Eames Chair for your pet”, and rightfully so, the curving shape of veneer wood is a style winner and takes it’s place with luxury lines for your precious pup.
Swooping curves are the signature of this dramatic Leather Recamier from Horchow. This sofa has eight-way, hand-tied construction on a kiln-dried hardwood frame and is covered in deep tufting with individually driven nail-head trim. Turned hardwood legs in a dark mahogany finish provide the finishing touch.
I adore the graceful sweeping lines on this Barcelona Console! The chrome and mirror finished are elegant and über feminine. Funny how the Art Deco-designed legs and shape of the matching white padded leather Barcelona stool is so iconic yet timeless.
Silhouettes are really impacting fashion and interior designs recently! Graphics and images of iconic and historical furniture and accessories are everywhere. The lovely thing about these pieces is that they usually represent ostentatious items like overly embellished chandeliers, or gilded Chairs from the Rococo Period which held the horror vacua mindset (lavish designs which left no unoccupied area). The clean lines of a silhouette give us the bare bones of a great original design. That is why they work so well in modern interiors. The Louis Ghost Armchair is a wonderful example of this. The reinventing of the classic Louis XVI chair is achieved with flare by eliminating literally everything but its shape.
