Pewter Kitchen with a Surprise

I burn, I pine, I perish! This is by far my most favorite kitchen of all time. It has been my favorite since it’s debut in the Jan/Feb 2006 Kitchen and Bath Ideas Magazine.  Kitchen designer Matthew Quinn dreamed up this kitchen for the Atlanta Symphony Associates Decorators’ Show House. See the range hood? That is made of scagolia stone, which happens to match the fireplace in the adjacent family room.

Are you ready for it? This is my favorite part; the hidden pantry! This wall is pantry and fridge wall, with cabinet doors hidding the two refridgerators and this lovely little nook.  I am all about surprises! I would consider a hidden pantry to be quite an afforable luxury if your space allows. This particular nook is designated as the coffee bar, however, it would be a great spot for any kind of auxiliary storage.

The dark painted pewter perimeter cabinets are stepped and topped with white marble, while the island in the center of the room is painted a creamy ivory. A mahogany topped table with sculpted legs stands beside the island for casual dinners.

Pewter Pantry with Ivory Island
You may generally notice in a kitchen where two different tones are present, the lighter color is located at the perimeter and the island is in the darker tone. However, in this kitchen the pewter cabinets surround a creamy ivory island. This was done to blend in nicely with the lighter limestone tile flooring.

Oh, and the island is a gem in itself; with the matching marble top and stainless steel apron sink.  I can’t get enough of this color combination.

Cream butlers Pantry

The Butlers Pantry has wonderful repeating patterns like the diamond motif in the kitchen.  See it repeated in the leaded glass inserts of the upper cabinets, and again on the lower cabinet doors.
